“This Little Light of Mine”
(Matthew 25:14-28)

(The purpose of today’s sermon is to encourage each individual to become aware of the talents with which God has blessed them and encourage them to maximize their potential by being good stewards of those talents/gifts.)

INTRODUCTION:
A steward is a person who manages and administrates what has been entrusted to him by another. In this case, a steward is a person who manages what has been entrusted to him/her by God. God has entrusted us with our lives, our talents, our time, and our money which calls for careful and responsible management of the things entrusted to your care.

Uncovering and discovering your talent is a real joy which boosts the physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.  Receiving praise and acclaim for producing and getting good results seems to energize you.  Your talent gets you noticed, gets you promoted, and gives you opportunity to be heard and seen to acknowledge a faithful God.

Three imperatives for letting your talent shine.

1.      My abilities and talents were given to me by God.

2.      My abilities and talents are a tool to serve God and increase his kingdom.

3.      My abilities and talents can increase or decrease according to my management.

Five Characteristics to identify your talents

1.      Your talents can be identified by your anticipation.

a.       What things are you looking forward to doing?

b.      What tense are you thinking? When will this be over? When do I get to do this again?

2.      Talent brings consistent & predictable results.

3.      Talent generates desire.

a.       A spontaneous reaction and a desire to engage the talent again.

4.      Talent is identified in rapid or easy learning.

a.       Those things that you pick up quickly or just have a knack for.

5.      You feel intense satisfaction when using your talent.

CONCLUSION:
A person who maximizes their talents/gifts is one who looks for ways to use those talents rather than being like the person in the parable.  (Use the parable for the closure to emphasis God’s expectations of the individual.)  A little light can drive out the darkness if used.
